PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst efficiently reducing and removing nitrogen oxide in exhaust gas within an atmosphere containing excessive oxygen under an oxidizing condition as a whole even in the presence of steam or in the presence of hydrocarbons contained in exhaust gas by a small amt. of the catalyst. SOLUTION: One kind of metal oxide among manganese oxide, iron oxide and cobalt oxide is physically mixed with proton type saponite to be added thereto but, in the case of manganese oxide, it is added in an amt. of 1-50mass% per a wt. of a catalyst and, in the case of iron oxide, it is added in an amt. of 10-50mass% and, in the case of cobalt oxide, it is added in an amt. of 3-10mass%. In an oxidizing atmosphere containing excessive oxygen and moisture, hydrocarbon is used as a reducing agent and the above mentioned catalyst is used. |
