PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject coating material capable of easily giving firm water-repellent coating film in a short time without causing heat damage to the material, by incorporating tetrafluoroethylene powder with a radiation- curable resin as binder. SOLUTION: This water-repellent coating material is obtained by incorporating (A) 100 pts.wt. of tetrafluoroethylene powder 0.1-10μm in particle diameter with (B) 5-900 pts.wt. of a radiation-curable binder resin (e.g. tetraethylene glycol diacrylate, epoxyacrylate, polyester acrylate). The coating material is prepared by using e.g. a beads mill or high-speed rotary agitator so as to thoroughly disperse the component A in the component B. A water-repellent coating film layer can be formed by applying this coating material to a surface to be coated followed by irradiating the coating material with radiation to effect curing it, thus affording excellent water repellency and adhesiveness. Therefore, this coating material is useful for e.g. preventing dew condensation at the air blow-off port of an automotive dashboard.
