The unit has a system to form an image on a photoconductor drum (1) as an image carrier. The transfer system is arranged separate from the drum, and the transfer sheet (6) is conveyed along a part or section of the drum peripheral surface. The sheet contacts this part surface and faces the transfer system. A conveying guide system is provided which has a conveying guide plate (11') and an inclined plate (14). The recording carrier sheet (6) is separated from the photoconductor drum (1) and supplied to a fixing unit (12). The guide plate is so designed, that the delivery direction of the sheet (6) is directed upwards, if the front edge of the sheet contacts the guide plate. Also to convey the sheet at a part of the conveyor guide system or of the guide plate, in a position, which is higher, than the position of the front edge of the sheet, if the front edge contacts the conveying guide unit or the guide plate. So that the contact surface of the sheet with the conductor drum (1) increases.
