The method involves returning the game state data to a predetermined status, in a darts throwing game machine with electronically stored game state data. The data are automatically updated when the individual players throw one or more darts. A return or resetting operating mode is activated when an event occurs in the game. The game is reset for one or more rounds to start the rounds of a game. The current game state data are substituted with the game state data required directly before each round to which the game is reset. The preferred apparatus for carrying out the method includes a memory for electronically storing the current game state data and the data for one or more previous rounds. This may also have a device to prevent the actuation of the reset mode when a predetermined condition exists.
