A method of tightening a bolt in an optimum time, comprising the steps of: setting at least initial speed and a target torque; producing a plurality of curves on the basis of the initial speed and target torque; selecting a curve from the plurality of curves; operating a motor at speeds given form the selected curve to monitor a torque while the motor is being operated; determining a curve on which the target torque is reached in a minimum time.
