PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent erosion resistant electrode structure with a high energy density by covering the periphery of a lead alloy core member with a PB sheet and giving particle size growth thermal treatment thereto for the particle size of the sheet to be fixed times that of the core member. SOLUTION: For an electrode, the periphery of a lead alloy core member 10 is covered with a high purity PB sheet 11. The combined material is compressed, cold-rolled and plastically deformed and an obtained band is given particle size growth thermal treatment in an argon gas atmosphere. In this way, a double particle agglomerate structure is formed, the average particle size (200μm) of the PB sheet 11 being four times that (25μm) of the core member 10. The large particle size of PB sheet causes good erosion resistance in a battery atmosphere and the small particle size of core member causes high energy density/unit weight. The Vickers hardness of the core member is preferably 30% larger than that of the PB sheet. In this way, an excellent erosion resistant electrode structure with a high energy density is obtained. |
