PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable repetition of recording and erasing for many times by incorporating a metal oxide and a sulfide or selenide of the same metal into a protective layer. SOLUTION: The protective layer is formed by a reactive sputtering in a mixture gas of oxygen and inert gas by using a target comprising a mixture of a metal and its sulide or sulfide or, the protective layer is formed by simultaneous reactive sputtering in a mixture gas of oxygen and inert gas by using a target comprising a metal and a target comprising a sulfide or selenide of the metal.
