METHOD AND DEVICE FOR JOINING A YARN BEING KNITTED TO A SELECTED KNITTING YARN

Joining members are provided which comprise four selectors (18a, 18b, 18c, 18d) for four selectable yarns (f1, f2, f3, f4) of which one (f1) is the yarn being knitted. The selectors (18a-18d) are positionable in two vertical selection positions. The yarns (f1-f4) pass from the selectors (18a-18d) into a yarn cutting and retaining device (21a-21d). A generally U-shaped arm (22) centred on a pivot axis (23) is used to form a closed loop in the selected yarn. A central hook pin (24) is arranged on said axis (23) and projects above the arm (22), and the tip of said pin has an angled surface (24a) enabling the loop to move from one side to the other of the pin, but not back again. A clamp (30) is used to grasp one end of the closed loop and clamp it onto the yarn being knitted.
