The sole (1) has recesses (7) in its top surface (5), into which the spikes penetrate. The recesses form a grid-type penetration area (6), and/or there are a large number of bosses (8) and/or ribs close together. The distance between the recess is less than the spike diameter, so as to form a friction joint between the latter and the sole. Parts of the penetration area can be of plastics foam, while the sole underside can be closed. It can be at least partly of elastic material, its thickness being at least equal to the distance for which the spikes protrude.
