<p>A pocketed coil spring assembly (12) comprising a plurality of transversely extending integrally connected fabric blocks (18). Each block (18) is defined between two sheets of fabric (24, 26) by transversely extending lines of attachment (28) of the sheets (24, 26) to each other. Successive lines of attachment (28) are located alternatively in the upper and lower planar surfaces (30, 34) of the assembly. The blocks (18) may be further connected with fasteners (46) in one of the planar surfaces (30, 34) of the assembly. The blocks (18) may contain either continuous bands (22) of coil springs or individual coil springs (20), but in any event, the springs within adjacent blocks (18) are oppositely oriented to create a balanced spring assembly in which there is no tendency for the springs to tilt upon compression of the assembly.</p> |
