PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject new derivative, which is a specific modifiedα- maltooligoside derivative and useful as a substrate for anα-amylase in a measuring reagent, etc., capable of efficiently measuringα-amylase activities important to clinical tests, etc., with a high accuracy in a short time. SOLUTION: This new modifiedα-maltooligoside derivative is represented by formula I [R is an aromatic color developing group or H; X is azide, a halogen, an M- monoalkylcarbamoyloxy, an aryl, an alkylsulfonyloxy, an alkylsilyloxy or H; (n) is 1 or 2] and is useful as a substrate for anα-amylase in a measuring reagent, etc., capable of efficiently measuringα-amylase activities with a high accuracy in a short time for the differential diagnosis, etc., of acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, epidemic parotiditis, pneumonia, renal failure, etc. The compound is obtained by successively reacting a cyclodextrin, modified at the 6-position and represented by formula II [Y is azide, a halogen, an arylsulfonyloxy, etc.; (m) is 5 or 6] with a dextrinase and theα-amylase and then introducing the aromatic color developing group thereinto.
