Rotation detector for mechanical shaft

The rotation detector uses a fibre optics sensor to read a barcode (5) on a disc mounted on a mechanical shaft. Radiation from a LED or a laser diode in the sensor electronics passes through a light-conducting fibre (1) to the collimating optics (2) in the sensor head, where it is focused on the barcode by a cylindrical lens (3). A picture of the barcode is then transmitted through another optics module (6) and a fibre optics bundle (7) back to the detector. The signal is then converted into a corresponding electrical signal, preferably in the form of pixels on a CCD matrix.
