A start/stop controller which has a network function and with which start and stop of various electric apparatuses can be performed very simply by a remote operation through a network. A LAN system (1) is composed of a start/stop controller (10), a main WS (20) which is a server, workstations WS (30 and 40), a printer server (45), etc. which are connected to each other with communication lines (50) installed in premises. The start/stop controller (10) closes or opens the power supply of the main WS (20), the WS (30), etc. in response to the instructions which are, for instance, sent from the WS (40) through the communication lines (50) and performs the necessary incidental processes (shutdown process, etc.).
