Poppet valve for IC engine

The hollow valve has a cavity (7) with a filling (9) to increase the heat transfer from the valve head (3) to the stem (4). The filling is retained by a tip cap (8). The filling is made of lead and, at least in its upper region, is pressed against the wall of the cavity. The cavity may be filled with solid lead in the valve guide area of the stem. The filling can be formed of lead wire fed into the cavity. Alternatively, molten lead can be poured into the valve stem cavity.
