Guide rail, esp. a Z-rail for a resistance welding machine

The rail (8) (esp., a Z-rail) for the guiding edges of sheet metal to be joined into a welding zone of a resistance welding machine is mounted on a current-carrying element (5) of the machine. The rail is provided with a layer (16) which covers the element (5) at least over the contact region with the rail, and is made of an electrically insulating but thermally well conducting material.
