PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocurable coating compsn. which is excellent in characteristics required for a light-screening thin film such as a color filter for an LCD, can form a minute and precise form, and is excellent in storage stability and dispersion stability and to provide a process for producing a high- quality substrate having a light-screening thin film on the surface. SOLUTION: A photocurable coating compsn. contg. a carbon-based black pigment having a specific surface area of 50m<2> /g or lower as the light-screening material and a photocurable resin obtd. by reacting at least one epoxy resin having a polyalkylene oxide chain in the molecule with at least oneα,β- ethylenically unsatd. acid as the polymer material is produced and is used to form a light-screening thin film on a substrate to give a substrate having a light-screening thin film.
