The vehicle includes both an IC engine and an electric motor drive operating in tandem. The IC engine (22) drives the front wheels (12,14) via a clutch and gearbox (24), whilst two electric motors (26,28) drives each of the rear wheels (16,18). The choice between the different methods of propulsion is effected by a function supervisor (40) as a function of the controls from the driving seat (38) and the speed of the vehicle. The electrical system includes a reversible oscillator, supplied by the battery of accumulators whilst the vehicle is propelled by the electric motors, and by the electric motors themselves when the vehicle is undergoing deceleration or electrical braking. The electric motors are used at low speeds or to complement the couple of the IC engine, whilst the IC engine is used permanently at high speed. |
