Electrostrictive drive

An electrostrictive drive has an actuator which changes in length electrostrictively and a mechanism converting this length change mechanically into an amplified movement. The mechanism has members on the one hand at the actuator end (12) and on the other hand at the output end (14), forming a rectangle. The members consist of flexible tension bands (10) but which are stiff in the longitudinal direction. The bands are actually part of a cable which runs without friction over the actuator ends and the mechanism output ends. The cable is pre-tensioned by a spring arrangement (18) working in the transverse direction. The cable has rigidity-increasing elements in the middle.
