A durable polymeric optical coating for a metal substrate comprising a polymeric binder and an additive selected from a polyhydroxyflavone, a polyhydroxy benzoic acid derivative or a hydroxy or polyhydroxy naphthoic acid or a mixture thereof. The coatings of the present invention are particularly useful for the preparation of polymeric photoreceptors for use in printing and imaging technologies; and for polymeric optical coatings for metallised optical data storage discs and metallised diffraction gratings.
