Method for aiding the piloting of a low-flying aircraft in order to avoid objects by determining the distance between a camera (1) on board the aircraft and objects (5) observed, in which: - comparison is made of the positions (12), in two successive images, of characteristics points of the objects(5), - a velocity vector corresponding to the positional separation is determined, - a point of concurrence (23) of all the velocities vectors is determined, and - a distance value relative to the camera (1) is assigned to each characteristic point which decreases as the modulus of the associated velocity vector increases and as the distance between the corresponding characteristic point (11, 12) and the said point of concurrence (23) decreases.
