An internal combustion engine comprises at least one cylinder slidingly receiving a reciprocable piston and has an intake passage opening into said cylinder via an intake port, and an exhaust passage opening into said cylinder via an exhaust port. Further, an engine control means receives signals from an operation condition detection device having at least one pressure sensor. Said pressure sensor is an exhaust gas pressure sensor associated to the exhaust passage and adapted to detect an exhaust gas pressure therein.
