PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aromatic carbonate from an aromatic hydroxy compound in high yield and selectivity by using an extremely economical catalyst compared to a conventional platinum-based or palladium- based catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for producing an aromatic carbonate comprises a reaction of an aromatic hydroxy compound such as phenol with carbon monoxide and molecular oxygen. The reaction is performed by using a catalyst comprising a combination of (a) one or more kinds selected from ruthenium metal or ruthenium compounds, (b) one or more kinds selected from trivalent or tetravalent cerium compounds and (c) one or more kinds selected from quaternary ammonium salts or quarternary phosphonium salts as a catalyst. |
