The present invention discloses a fingerprints reading system comprising a fingerprint collector (10, 50) having a finger pressure and temperature-sensitive active surface (11, 53), said surface being substantially smaller than the surface of the fingerprint (52) to be read, the reading being performed when the collector and finger are brought into contact with each other and upon a sliding movement of said collector and finger relative to each other. The system includes means to rebuild the whole image of a fingerprint from partial images (10, 11, ..., in), provided by the collector during said movement. This invention is especially useful for people identification devices.
