The present invention refers to a method an and an apparatus system for the treatment of floating slag in order to produce coarse high purity graphite, wherein a concentrate is formed which contains at least about 90 percent of carbon, said concentrate being treated with a diluted acid solution, and the paste being subsequently subjected to attrition aided by an adjuvant so as to form a novel synthetic laminated graphite having a carbon content of 99+ percent by weight, with at least 70 percent of the mass retained in the mesh +100, and a total recovery of graphite carbon from the feeding step of more than 85 percent by weight.
