A guard rail, designed to fit across an opening such as a French window (10) in a multi-storey building with balconies, consists of a first vertical panel (12) which attaches to the French window frame, and a second vertical panel (28) set at a distance of between 40 cm and 1 m from the first, with the space between the two panels fitted with lines (34) for hanging out washing. The two panels are attached to a tubular metal frame made from horizontal (18, 20) members and arches (22, 24, 26). The panels themselves can be made from glass, eg. frosted or coloured, or a metal such as aluminium. A fan or heater can be included to dry the washing more quickly. |
