Food and agricultural by-products are sterilised and dehydrated in a single vessel, where the waste material is cooked and sterilised and any oil drained off in the case of materials with a high fat content, followed by the material drying under vacuum. The entire process takes place in a single vessel (1) mixed by a central helical screw (2) turned by a motor (4). The vessel is enclosed in a casing (12) which is heated by burners (16). During the heating the vessel is kept sealed and pressurised. Oil is drained (22) from the base if necessary and during drying a vacuum pump (7) is used to depressurise the vessel. |
