The invention discloses the use of glyceryl poly(meth)acrylate type gel based pharmaceutical compositions locally applied for treating various symptoms and preventing certain pathological conditions: varicose ulcers, vaginal dryness and infection (candidoses),scars, inflammatory oedemas, insect bites, light burns, post-radiotherapy burns, viral diseases (herpes), sexually transmitted diseases (in particular AIDS). The gels are characterised by a strong hydrating power, a very high water absorbing capacity and absolute safety.
