<p>The present invention relates to a system for providing sound deafening in a floor construction having a plurality of generally spaced apart joists (4). The system comprises a plurality of elongate trays (1) each tray (1) having a generally rigid continuous base (12) and side walls (6) formed and arranged for closely engaging the opposed side faces (7) of the joists (4) and for supporting the base (12) in use of the tray. The side walls (6) are provided with joist engagement portions (2) for engagement with the upper edges of the joists (4) so as to extend substantially continuously along to support the side walls (6) and base (12) at a predetermined level relative to the joists (4). The tray (1) contains a substantially continuous layer of dense particulate sound deafening material (14). The system includes a substantially continuous and uniform vibration damping strip material (10) on an upper floor support surface for substantially acoustically isolating a floor mounted thereon from the joists (4). In use of the system according to the invention the substantially continuous layer of sound deafening material (14) between the joists reduces airborne noise transmission and the vibration damping strip (10) reduces impact noise transmission.</p> |
