The energy saving computer system generates a clock stop signal 238 after a defined period. The circuit responds to an address 301 and to an activity detection signal 360 that applies a reset to a latch 350 coupled to an intermediate latch 351. The circuit has a pre-fetch detection circuit 320 with an output 305 that is logically combined 330 with an address match signal to control the sleep mode of the system.
