In a tape cassette containing a pair of tape reels (2) around which a length of tape is wound and having columnar pivots (30) formed upright on the inner wall of one of cassette halves (1) to turnably support reel detents (4) which keep the reels (2) from turning when not in use, each of the pivots (30) for reel detents (4) is formed with an axially extending groove (31). The groove (31) has a width substantially the same throughout. <IMAGE>
