PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively oxidize and remove carbon monoxide at low temperature in a reformed gas to be supplied to a fuel cell by using A-type zeolite carrying specified metal or their alloys as an oxidization catalyst. SOLUTION: This catalyst for carbon monoxide removal is produced from an A-type zeolite carrying at least one metal selected from a group including Pt, Pd, Ru, Au, Rh, and Ir or alloys containing at least two of these metals. Cations composing the A-type zeolite preferably include at least one metal selected form a group including K, Na, Ca, and Mg. A method for removing carbon monoxide in a reformed gas to be supplied to a fuel cell is carried out by passing the reformed gas, which is produced by reforming a hydrocarbon type raw material, through the described catalyst for carbon monoxide removal at 50-200 deg.C oxidation catalyst temperature. In this carbon monoxide removing method, the quantity of oxygen to be introduced together with the reformed gas into the catalyst for carbon monoxide removal is preferably 0.5-2 times as much as that of carbon monoxide in the reformed gas. |
