The invention features a rucksack adapted for carrying a surfboard (5) or the like equipped with two fastening straps (6) for the surfer's feet comprising means for holding (4) the surfboard against its rear surface to maintain the board vertically there, and means for fastening the rucksack on the user's shoulders. The board (5) holding means (4) are designed to be located between the board (5) fastening straps (6), are detachable in height and are adjustable in depth and width. The rucksack is preferably located between the board (5) fastening straps (6). The rucksack can also be used to carry a roller board, the means for holding the board against the rucksack being located between the front and rear rollers. The rucksack offers various other modes of carriage, in particular by hand or slung across the shoulders.
