The discharge lamp comprises a discharge tube (1) made of gas-tight quartz glass containing a filling medium which can be ionised and which contains up to 0.2 mg/cm sqd. sodium. Maximum power consumption of the lamp is 150 W. Around the discharge tube, and containing it completely, is a sheath (8) made of gas-tight, transparent quartz glass, with doping to absorb ultraviolet (UV) light, containing inert gas to a pressure of at least 600 mbar at room temp. The evacuated outer envelope (13) is also made of gas-tight quartz glass doped to absorb UV light.
