Dispenser for rod-shaped objects e.g. pencils

The dispenser comprises a housing (12) in which a drum (32) is supported rotatable about a horizontal axis. Part of the drum is exposed through an opening (24,26) on one wall (14) of the housing. It has a number of recesses (48,50) parallel to the axis, each accommodating one pencil. Within the housing and above the drum is a pencil magazine with a pivotable bottom flap which is periodically raised and lowered by a cam on the periphery of the drum. The free edge of the flap can be moved between the upper edge of the wall opening and a position lower by a diameter of the pencils. The drum may comprise a number of parallel discs (38,40,42,44) at least one of which has cams (50) formed on the periphery for periodic raising and lowering of the flap.
