The system for starting has an ignition lock, which is designed for controlling electric contacts in a switching circuit, required for starting the vehicle. The ignition lock (17) is arranged in the combination instrument (1). The ignition lock has a reader unit (9), and the ignition key (11) is designed as a card, with a chip (12) serving as a transponder or data carrier. The ignition lock has a rotary switch (13) for the operation of the electric contacts (16). A control unit to be operated by the ignition lock is arranged in the combination instrument (1), with which an electronic driving off lock is activated or deactivated.
