Device for selecting and engaging the desired gear of a mechanical gearbox for a motor vehicle. The device comprises a stationary part (11), which is intended to be arranged fixedly on the housing of the gearbox, and a movable operating element (12), which operating element can be coupled to a gear-change mechanism of the gearbox. The operating element is displaceable along a first axis, which displacement corresponds to a displacement along the neutral line (N) of the gearbox, and is rotatable about the first axis, which rotation corresponds to the engagement of a desired gear. The device furthermore comprises detection means (21, 22) for detecting the actual position of the operating element with respect to the stationary part of the device and providing corresponding feedback signals for control means. The detection means comprise magnets (23, 24) which are arranged fixedly on the operating element and create a first magnetic field, having lines of force which extend substantially in the direction of the first axis, and a second magnetic field, having lines of force which extend substantially at right angles to the lines of force of the first magnetic field. Furthermore, the detection means comprise a first Hall sensor (25) and a second Hall sensor (26), which are arranged fixedly on the stationary part of the device and are respectively disposed so as to detect the first and the second magnetic fields. |
