The invention can be used in the manufacture of electrodes for alkaline accumulators with high specific electrical characteristics. The invention in essence is an electrode for an alkaline accumulator, comprising a porous base of nickel foil of 30-150 mu m in thickness and with a porosity of 25-55 %, the pore size being between 1.0 and 15 mu m. The method of manufacturing the electrode involves obtaining a base by rolling between cylinders coated with a mixture of active lubricant and organic solvent, such as a mixture of oleic acid and acetone, baking in a reducing atmosphere and subsequently introducing the active substance. The electrodes have enhanced specific electrical characteristics owing to the low thickness and high porosity of the base.
