摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To regulate the core break of a shaft fitting part at the time of contraction of a shaft of a vehicular steering column by fixing a bush with an axial hole of such size as not to impede the rotation of a lower shaft, fittingly to a body front side end part in a jacket tube. SOLUTION: A bush 30 with its center part having a slightly larger diameter than the diameter of a lower shaft 10 is fittingly fixed to the lower end of a jacket tube 3, and the lower shaft 10 is passed through the axial hole 31 of the bush 30. At the time of a collision accident of a vehicle, load generated by the retreat of a steering gear and the collision of an occupant against a steering wheel is inputted obliquely to the axis of a steering shaft. When the steering shaft is contracted, since the lower shaft 10 is passed through the axial hole 31 of the bush 30, the lower shaft 10 comes in sliding contact with the inner peripheral edge of the axial hole 31 so as to regulate pinching. As a result, the core break of upper and lower shafts 9, 10 is impeded, so that both shafts 9, 10 can be smoothly contracted.
