Viewing apparatus comprises an array of mirrors surrounding an 3-D, multifaceted object under examination and lit with lamps 57 with the mirrors disposed relative to the object and to one another in such a way as to be able to present, in a single plane, a composite representation of the object derived from a series of images some of which are inverted and reversed (1-2, 4-6, 8) seen from a variety of viewpoints spaced around the object. The corrected image of the object may be produced in a conversion unit (Fig. 14b, not shown). A quality control system using the viewing apparatus as the primary sensor in chamber (12) and comparing the object moved against a standard so that objects on conveyor (69) can be rejected or accepted by moving deflecter arm (102). |
