PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent poor visual recognition caused by the deterioration of the contrast ratio at the time of displaying in a liquid crystal display device which is capable of switching between information display and a mirror by switching a mode. SOLUTION: In this liquid crystal display device, a scattering mode type-liquid crystal panel 2, in which the entire surface is capable of switching between the transparent state and the slightly opaque state, is disposed on the rear surface of a liquid crystal panel 1 for information display for positively displaying information such as time, and further, a mirror-finished surface plate 3 is disposed on the rear surface thereof. At the time of displaying the liquid crystal panel 1 for display, a liquid crystal panel 2 for the background is placed in a state of slightly opaque, not allowing the visual recognition of the mirror- finished surface plate 3, and display is made in a white background, thus the contrast ratio of the information display becomes high without being affected by the surrounding environment. In contrast to this, when the liquid crystal panel for display is in a state of non-display, the liquid crystal panel for the background is placed in a transparent state, thus the mirror- finished surface plate is visually recognized by transmitting through both the liquid crystal panels, and is usable as a mirror. The liquid crystal display device serves both as the information display and a decorative panel, when a decorative plate, on which patterns are drawn, is used in place of the mirror-finished surface plate. |
