PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a reduction in the size of an area where an image is not formed or the elimination of it by exerting control so that toner recovered by a cleaning member is caused to restick electrostatically to the surface of an image carrier all at once. SOLUTION: Transfer residual toner on the photoreceptor 1 which occurs during each image forming operation, from the formation of an electrostatic latent image to the recovery of the transfer residual toner on the photoreceptor 1 after toner-image transfer to the cleaning roller 12, is recovered by causing it to stick electrostatically to a part of the periphery of the cleaning roller 12 rotating in a fixed direction. In order to recover the toner, recovered by the cleaning roller 12, into a developing device 4 electrostatically after the toner recovery operation is performed several times during one or less rotation of the cleaning roller 12, the toner recovered by the cleaning roller 12 is caused to restick electrostatically to the surface of the photoreceptor 1 all at one. The rotation of the cleaning roller 12 and the application of a voltage to the roller 12 are controlled so that this operation is obtained. |
