PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a projection lens system having a small value of back focus though it has excellent telecentric property, having the wide angle of view and small distortion and being excellent in compactness. SOLUTION: This projection lens system projecting an image on a display element LC on a specified surface is composed of a 1st lens group G1 having negative refractive power and a 2nd lens group G2 having positive refractive power in order from a screen side. In such a case, each of the 1st and the 2nd lens groups G1 and G2 includes at least one aspherical lens L1 or L3. Assuming that the focal distance of an entire system is (f), the focal distance of the 1st lens group G1 is f1, and the focal distance of the 2nd lens group G2 is f2, conditional expressions 1<|f1|/f<4 and 0.5<|f1|/|f2|<3 are satisfied.
