Control of air flow delivered by room air conditioning unit

The air conditioner has an inlet to draw air in from the room, a heat exchanger to cool the air, and an outlet to return the cooled air to the room. The outlet has a number of transverse blades to control direction of the air flow, and the orientation of the blades can be adjusted to alter the air flow direction. The speed of air flow is determined by a variable-speed fan. The exterior of the unit carries a control panel where the user can select an operating mode from a number of alternatives. This selection is translated to signals to control the speed of the fan and the orientation of the blades.
