Portable hydrocarbon monitor for checking solvent concentration

A portable hydrocarbon monitor (14) for checking the solvent concentration in the drying system (15) of a rotary printing press employs an IR absorption spectrometer (2) operating via a heated sampling conduit (12) and gastight measurement vessel (1). The gas/solvent vapour for quantitative analysis is drawn into the vessel (1) by the pump (9) via the 3-limb tap (13) and signals from IR detectors in the spectrometer (2) are evaluated by the controller (4) for remote (16, 17) or local (6) display subject to temp. correction. A condenser column cools/reclaims solvent in the sump (8), purging of the apparatus by external air through the filters (11) uses the pump (10) and calibration substitutes standardised solvent concentrations for the vessel (1).
