PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer printer wherein an ink ribbon can be separated from a sheet to be printed, in a heated or cooled state, depending on the kind of said sheet by so arranging that said ink ribbon is started to be wound up after a carriage is moved a predetermined distance after the start of printing, thereby to separate said ink ribbon after an ink melted by the heat of a thermal head is turned solid. CONSTITUTION:When each of protrusions 36, 37 and 32, 33 is in the form of a fan with a center angle 20 deg.C, the protrusions 36, 37 of a take-up gear 34 are meshed with the protrusions 32, 33 of a spacer 28 after the take-up gear 34 is rotated idly 34 deg. at most. The spacer 28 consequently starts rotating. Moreover, a pressure plate 26 is rotated by the friction force with the spacer 28, so that an ink ribbon is started to be wound up via a main shaft 28. Accordingly, although printing by a thermal head 15 is started simultaneously when a carriage 14 is moved, wind-up of the ink ribbon is started when a take-up bobbin 21 is rotated after the carriage 14 is moved a predetermined distance. Therefore, the ink ribbon can be detached after the ink in the melting state is cooled and turned solid. |
