PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition having high coefficient of friction even to ice/snow surface, excellent in on-ice brake performance and abrasion resistance, and useful as e.g. a pneumatic tire tread rubber, by incorporating a rubber component with specific porous particles in specified proportions. SOLUTION: This rubber composition is obtained by incorporating (A) 100 pts.wt. of a rubber component such as natural rubber with (B) 330 pts.wt. of porous particles >=75 degree in hardness determined by the JIS-K 6301-C, 5-2,000μm in average particle size, 401,000Åin the average pore diameter on the surface, 10-800m<2> /g in BET nitrogen adsorption specific surface area, having siliconbound hydroxyl group (Si-OH) and/or aluminum-bound hydroxyl group (Al-OH) on the surface, and furthermore, pref. (C) 3-50wt.%, based on the porous particles, of at least one kind of coupling agent of the formula Y3 -SiCn H2n A [Y is a 1-4C alkyl, alkoxyl or chlorine; (n) is 1-6; A is Sm Cn H2n Si-Y3 ((m) is 1-6), etc.,] [e.g. bis(3-triethoxysilylpropyl)tetrasulfide].
