PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate or reduce distortion of an ultrasonic image caused by manual scanning by generating and displaying a scan support image for aurally supporting the manual scan in synchronization with image processing based on a received signal from an ultrasonic probe which can be manually scanned in contact with the body surface. SOLUTION: When a foot switch 26 is operated, a timing signal generator 20 outputs a timing signal in synchronization with a start pulse output from a scanning control part 14 to a three-dimensional image forming part 16 and a scan support sound generating part 24. The three-dimensional image forming part 16 starts processing echo data from a point of time when a timing signal is input, and automatically stops at the end of processing one sheet of an ultrasonic image. The image information of a three-dimensional image is sent to a display device 22 through a display control part 18 to be displayed on a screen. The scan support sound generating part 24 generates a scan support sound for aurally support manual scan according to a timing signal to be output to a speaker.
