PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the orientation stability of liquid crystal domains, to improve reliability and to embody high-fineness images by homogeneously orienting the boundaries of the plural liquid crystal domains varying in orientation. SOLUTION: An array substrate 1 and a counter substrate 9 are stuck to each other apart a prescribed spacing by using glass spacers and liquid crystals 6 are injected. between both substrates 1 and 9. The substrates are then hermetically sealed. The liquid crystal molecules are homogeneously oriented at the boundaries of the liquid crystal domains 7, i.e., the liquid crystal molecules are homogeneously oriented along the three boundaries 11 of the four liquid crystal domains 7 within one display pixel 5. In such a case, the pretilt angle of the liquid crystals 6 of the adjacent liquid crystal domains 7 is set at >=4 to <=20 deg.. The respective liquid crystals are made to stably exist by setting the pretilt angle to determine the free energy of the individual liquid crystal domains 7 at >=4 deg. and homogeneously orienting the liquid crystals of the liquid crystal domain boundaries 11 along the boundaries 11. |
