PURPOSE:To reduce the lowering of the luminance of a liq. crystal display panel due to the blackening phenomenon of a cold-cathode fluorescent tube by placing the tube behind the panel so that the surfaces of flat plate-shaped electrodes in the tube meet at nearly right angles to the surface of the panel. CONSTITUTION:A cold-cathode fluorescent tube 3 is placed behind a liq. crystal display panel 5 so that the surfaces of flat plate-shaped electrodes 11 in the tube 3 meet at nearly right angles to the surface of the panel 5. Even when both ends of the tube 3 blacken, the degree of blackening of parts (b) confronting the sides of the electrodes 11 is lower than that of parts (a) confronting the surfaces of the electrodes 11 and the lowering of the luminance of the parts (b) due to blackening can be reduced. Accordingly, the lowering of the luminance of the panel 5 caused by the lowering of the luminance of both ends of the tube 3 due to blackening phenomenon can be reduced. |
