A spacer (7) for retaining and positioning elongated elements (3) at one or a plurality of levels in a nuclear reactor fuel assembly (1). The spacer comprises a grid structure of joined-together sleeve-formed cells (9). A coolant is adapted to flow upwards through the fuel assembly (1). The majority of the sleeve-formed cells (9) are provided with an upstream edge with a waveform. The edge is waveformed in such a way that the upwardly flowing coolant first encounters that part of the edge (9b) which is disposed between the joints of the sleeves (9) and thereafter that part of the edge (9a) which is disposed at the joints of the sleeves. Between these edge parts (9a, 9b), oblique edges (9c) are formed. <IMAGE> |
